In every dynamic of national life, there are always moments that test not only individuals but also our collective maturity in shaping modern state cohesion. Thus, events involving public figures often spark a range of reactions—from empathy to speculation.

In such situations, what is needed is not hasty judgement, but clarity of thought, wisdom in conduct, and the ability to place issues proportionally within the framework of broader interests.

Over the past few days, all national media have reported the resignation of the Head of the TNI’s Strategic Intelligence Agency (Kabais), Lieutenant General TNI Yudi Abrimantyo, as a result of the involvement of some Bais TNI personnel in the acid splashing incident against activist Andri Yunus.

With this resignation of the Kabais TNI head, Indonesian society must interpret it clearly and proportionally from the perspective of military leadership ethics. Because amid the torrent of public opinion, it is important to emphasise that resignation does not necessarily equate to direct involvement of the institution or leader in an ongoing violation.

In military tradition, such a step actually reflects the internalisation of the principle of command responsibility, placing moral accountability above personal position interests.

The concept of command responsibility is one of the main foundations in modern military systems. A leader is not only responsible for the organisation’s successes but also for every deviation that occurs within their scope of authority.

In this context, resignation or stepping down can be understood as an ethical mechanism to preserve personal and institutional honour while ensuring that law enforcement processes can proceed without conflicts of interest.

Thus, the step is more appropriately viewed as a form of commitment to principles of professionalism and accountability, rather than an admission of personal involvement.

Resignation actually demonstrates a sincere, knightly attitude, unafraid to face various public pressures or legal processes once in a position of having lost office.

From an institutional governance perspective, this decision also contributes to strengthening norms and morals that public office is inseparable from non-negotiable responsibilities.

On the other hand, this decision reflects the TNI’s institutional efforts to maintain credibility in the eyes of the public. Transparency and accountability are primary prerequisites for defence institutions in a democratic country. By providing space for independent law enforcement processes, the TNI demonstrates commitment to the supremacy of law as a fundamental principle in state life.

Furthermore, this step has strategic implications in the context of national stability. Amid global dynamics marked by increasing geopolitical rivalries and hybrid threats, domestic stability is a crucial element in maintaining national resilience. Every internal upheaval has the potential to be exploited by certain actors, both state and non-state, through disinformation, opinion manipulation, or exploitation of sensitive issues.

Therefore, it is important for all elements of the nation to respond to this situation proportionally and non-reactively.

Differences in views in public space are part of democratic dynamics, but they must still be channelled through rational, civilised, and fact-based means. Respecting the ongoing legal process is a form of political maturity as well as a reflection of trust in state institutions.

Public space also needs to be protected from excessive polarisation tendencies. Speculation not based on data, emotional narratives, and provocative efforts will only muddy the atmosphere and potentially disrupt the objectivity of law enforcement. In this context, the role of media and community leaders is important in promoting healthy and constructive information literacy.

Vigilance against potential disinformation is also crucial, especially in the digital era that allows information to spread quickly and massively. Disruptions to national unity do not always appear in the form of open conflict but can emerge through subtle yet systematic influences, which if not anticipated can weaken social cohesion.

Ultimately, what is needed is a collective attitude to place national interests above group interests. Restraint, respect for the law, and maintaining social calm are primary prerequisites in ensuring that every dynamic can be navigated without sacrificing national unity. A peaceful, prosperous, and advanced Indonesia can only be realised if all elements of the nation are committed to maintaining stability and strengthening trust in state institutions.

In this framework, every decision by officials and state institutions oriented towards accountability and broader interests deserves appreciation and must be positioned as part of efforts to keep the Indonesian nation safe and peaceful. The process must be fair, but this nation and state must still be cared for and protected by us.

Rest assured that the TNI remains at the forefront in upholding the trust and mandate of the suffering people.
