The Journey of KRI Canopus-936: From Germany, Docking in Mauritius Before Continuing to the Homeland
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - After eight days of sailing across the South Atlantic Ocean, the Indonesian Navy’s Hydro-Oceanography Centre’s latest survey vessel, KRI Canopus-936, has completed Etape IV and docked in Port Louis, Mauritius, on Friday (24/4/2026).
“The arrival of KRI Canopus-936 in Port Louis, Mauritius, was welcomed by diplomatic officials from the Indonesian Embassy in Antananarivo, Madagascar, who cover the regions of Mauritius, Seychelles, and the Union of the Comoros, namely Charge d’Affaires ad interim (KUTAP) RI Lanang Seputro,” stated the Navy Information Service (Dispenal), quoted on Sunday (26/4/2026).
The welcoming was also attended by Embassy staff and the Assistant Defence Attaché of Indonesia in Pretoria, as part of the maritime diplomacy mission to strengthen bilateral relations in the region.
On that occasion, Commander of KRI Canopus-936, Colonel (N) Indragiri Yani W., along with the Indonesian Charge d’Affaires, conducted a courtesy call to the Commander of the National Coast Guard of Mauritius.
During the three-day docking in Mauritius, the entire ship’s crew will carry out several important agendas to ensure the vessel’s readiness before proceeding to the final leg towards the homeland.
The presence of KRI Canopus-936 in various friendly countries is expected to build trust and enhance maritime cooperation.
This activity is part of the strategic policy of the Chief of Naval Staff (Kasal), Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, which emphasises the importance of the Indonesian Navy’s presence in strengthening maritime diplomacy and inter-state relations.
This voyage is part of the delivery process of the vessel after completing construction and testing at the Abeking & Rasmussen shipyard in Lemwerder, Germany.
“This maiden voyage is the initial step for KRI Canopus-936 before it begins carrying out various survey and marine research missions to support national maritime interests,” said the Head of the Hydro-Oceanography Centre (Danpushidrosal), Rear Admiral TNI Budi Purwanto, in a press release on Sunday (15/3/2026).
