The House and bribery
The House and bribery
From Rakyat Merdeka
The honesty and loyalty of the members of the House of Representatives, who are indeed the representatives of the people, are being put to the test now. Rumors are rife that bribery is rampant in this highly respectable institution.
It is rumored, among other things, that some legislators have received bribes from the Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency (IBRA) and been involved in corruption, collusion and nepotism (KKN) practices and manipulation.
Chairman of the National Development Planning Board Kwik Kian Gie has asked the police to investigate alleged bribery by IBRA and all bribery cases in the House as each House commission is not free from this case.
Kwik has asked the police to use as their preliminary evidence the report made by Indira Damayanti of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle's faction in the House. Kwik himself is ready to testify or supply the materials at his disposal.
Meanwhile, chairman of the legislative division of Commission on Audit of Government Officials' Wealth, Abdullah Hehamahua, said that two House members were strongly implicated in KKN, manipulation and fraud. Then seven more out of 100 House members subjected to further investigations are allegedly involved in KKN.
Indeed, our present House members fall short of the expectations of the voters. They are dishonest and are involved in KKN. They also waste the state's money with their frequent trips abroad under the pretext of an official mission. The House speaker has been found guilty in a court of law. In the next election, politicians like them must never be voted for. It is better to vote for young politicians who are still free from any irregularities and criminal offenses.
