The Four Routes of Acid Attack Perpetrator Andrie Yunus: Gathering at Gambir, Surveillance at KFC Cikini, Attack in Salemba
JAKARTA — Four perpetrators of an acid attack against KontraS activist Andrie Yunus allegedly followed the victim from the moment he left the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office in Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, 12 March 2026.
Kombes Iman Imanuddin, Director of General Criminal Investigation at Metro Jaya Police, explained that the four perpetrators, riding two motorcycles, monitored the victim’s movements before carrying out the acid attack.
Initially, the perpetrators rode their two motorcycles from South Jakarta to an initial gathering point on Jalan Medan Merdeka Timur. They then circled back towards the same street and passed near the Cikini Raya petrol station before heading to the YLBHI office.
Andrie did not proceed directly to the location on Jalan Salemba I. He first refuelled at the Cikini Raya petrol station and was continuously followed by the perpetrators.
At approximately 23:32 WIB, CCTV footage showed the perpetrators near the Cikini Raya petrol station. The four perpetrators on two motorcycles allegedly waited for the victim in front of KFC Cikini before resuming their pursuit as he moved towards Jalan Diponegoro and then to Jalan Salemba I.
The acid attack occurred at approximately 23:37 WIB on Jalan Salemba I, at the Jalan Talang intersection. After carrying out the attack, the perpetrators dispersed using two motorcycles.
One motorcycle, ridden by two unidentified perpetrators, travelled against traffic on Jalan Salemba towards Senen, then moved to Jalan Kramat Raya, towards Tugu Tani, and subsequently towards Stasiun Gondangdia.
Meanwhile, the second motorcycle, ridden by two other unidentified perpetrators, travelled straight from the attack location towards Jalan Pramuka Sari II in the direction of Matraman, then to the Jatinegara area and Jalan Otto Iskandar Dinata, East Jakarta.
Police also discovered that one perpetrator changed clothes after the attack in an attempt to evade capture.
“Based on communications network analysis, the perpetrators dispersed to the areas of Kalibata, Ragunan, and the Bogor region,” said Iman.
