The First Halaqah in History at Times Square
On Friday, 27 February 2026, Dr Faraj Hasan invited Muslim worshippers at Times Square to sit in a circular formation in the style of a halaqah, reminiscent of gathering around a campfire. He then led the Muslim community at one of the world’s most bustling locations in reciting Surah Al-Fatiha.
Surrounded by flickering advertising billboards and the incessant noise of the city that never sleeps, they chanted Surah Al-Fatiha together. Muslims from various backgrounds, cultures, and languages were united by one Holy Book.
In one of the busiest places in the world, we found genuine tranquillity.
