Karet Station is set to officially stop operating starting 1 September 2026. Moving forward, passenger boarding and alighting will be diverted to BNI City Station.

This change is driven by the integration process between BNI City Station and Karet Station, conducted by KAI Daop 1 Jakarta and KAI Commuter. Today, Monday (31/8/2026), marks the final day Karet Station serves passengers.

“Starting 1 September 2026, all operations at Karet Station will be diverted to Sudirman Baru/BNI City Station. Commuters who previously boarded and alighted at Karet Station can use the walkway access beside Karet Station to reach BNI City Station,” wrote the KAI Commuter X account.

From 1 September, service operations at Karet Station will be completely halted. Officials have also prepared supporting facilities to serve passengers at BNI City Station.

“Electronic gates, ticket counters, and halls on the western side of BNI City Station are available and integrated with access from the Karet entrance,” KAI stated.

According to a press release from KAI Commuter, there are currently 264 trips for the Commuter Line from and to the Kampung Bandan/Cikarang route via Karet and Sudirman Baru/BNI City stations. Due to this integration, the Cikarang Commuter Line trips will remain unchanged; however, passengers using Karet Station must now use BNI City Station.

Meanwhile, there will be no changes to the Airport Rail Link (Basoetta) service at BNI City Station during this work process. Boarding and alighting procedures for Basoetta users remain as they are currently.

Observations at the location on Monday (31/8) showed that Karet Station was still crowded with passengers. Platform 1, serving trains from Bekasi, Manggarai, and Cikarang, was more crowded than Platform 2.

Workers were seen queuing to exit the station. KRL services appeared normal, with trains arriving approximately every five minutes.

Commuters expressed varying opinions regarding the diversion of services from Karet Station to BNI City Station. One passenger, Aca, who uses Karet Station daily for work, stated she had no issue with the move.

“Actually, perhaps because Karet is a small station. So, if it is moved to BNI City, it might make mobility easier for passengers,” said Aca at Karet Station.

A worker from Tangerang, she hoped the relocation would simplify passenger mobility and make journeys more efficient.

However, Nadia, a passenger from Bekasi, held a different view. She felt that moving the service to BNI City Station would significantly increase her walking distance to the office.

“To be honest, I do not agree. I do not agree because Karet Station made it very easy for me as it is close to everything. I walk to my office from Karet Station. If it moves to BNI City, the walk will be much further,” she said.

She also noted that the socialisation regarding the total service relocation was still insufficient. She hoped for further communication so that regular passengers would not be confused when using BNI City Station.

“Firstly, the socialisation needs to be improved. There are no videos or tutorials for using the walkway. Secondly, perhaps public transport connections could be made easier,” Nadia added.

Pedestrian paths have been prepared for commuters travelling between BNI City Station and Karet. Directional signage is visible along the passenger exit routes at BNI City Station.

Additionally, electronic gates, ticket counters, and halls on the western side of BNI City Station are connected to the walkway. KRL users from BNI City Station will travel approximately 450 metres, a walk of about five minutes, to reach Karet. Some parts of the walkway are already equipped with canopies and trees to provide shade.
