The Figure of Michael Bambang Hartono in the Memory of Governor Ahmad Luthfi

Kudus (ANTARA) - Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi conveyed his deepest condolences over the death of PT Djarum Chairman, Michael Bambang Hartono. Accordingly, Ahmad Luthfi paid his respects directly when the body was laid in state at the PB Djarum Sports Hall (GOR), Jati, Kudus Regency, Central Java, on Tuesday. Hundreds of mourners from various circles arrived to pay their final respects to one of Indonesia’s largest business figures. The body of Michael Bambang Hartono arrived in Kudus on Sunday, 22 March 2026, in the evening, after being laid in state in Jakarta. Upon arrival at GOR Djarum, the coffin was welcomed by family, relatives, and hundreds of employees in a solemn and emotional atmosphere. The laying in state in Kudus is scheduled to last for three days, from 22 to 24 March 2026. The general public is given the opportunity to pay respects and pray for the deceased before the funeral procession planned for Rembang on Wednesday, 25 March 2026. “We are deeply losing a national figure, a national entrepreneur from our region. This is a profound sorrow,” he said. On behalf of the Central Java Provincial Government and the community, especially in Kudus, he extended the deepest condolences. “As the Governor of Central Java, together with the entire community, especially in the Kudus region, I extend the deepest condolences. May his good deeds and worship be accepted,” he said. Luthfi remembered the deceased as a good figure with significant contributions to development. “Today, since I became Governor, through the Regent, the free homecoming programme is also supported by Djarum. Including the development of the green economy, Djarum has become one of those that is world-renowned,” he said. For information, Bambang Hartono passed away on 19 March 2026 in Singapore at the age of 86. His passing leaves profound sorrow, not only for the extended Djarum family but also for the national business world. During his lifetime, Bambang Hartono was known as one of Indonesia’s richest people, along with his brother, Robert Budi Hartono. That figure grew the Djarum Group into a large company that spans various sectors, from the tobacco industry to banking. Besides in the business world, the deceased was also known as a philanthropist and sports enthusiast. Through PB Djarum and the Djarum Foundation, he helped produce many accomplished badminton athletes and ran various social programmes in education and the environment.
