The fate of museums

From Media Indonesia

Early in June 1995, I visited Taiwan's National Museum in Taipei. I was truly impressed by the cleanliness of the museum and the way all the items are displayed. No doubt it attracts both domestic and foreign tourists.

On June 22, 1995 I intentionally visited Fatahillah Museum in Kota, Jakarta only to find that the condition of the museum was saddening. Many of the items are ruined or lost. The remaining collections are not properly taken care of. Not even a guide could readily be available.

Which institutions are really responsible for the safeguard or maintenance of this museum; the Ministry of Education and Culture, Jakarta City Administration or the Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications?
