The face of human torture

German artist Gunther Uecker will display his creations at an
exhibition titled Manusia yang Teraniaya: 14 alat Pemuas (The
Tortured Human: 14 Means of Torture) at Bentara Budaya Jakarta
here.

The works on display represent the artist's reaction to the
violence against foreigners in Germany. Uecker made use of such
items as wood, fabric, nails, stone, ash, sand and paper in
creating his works.

"This is an instrument of my protest, my stance and my agony.
Perhaps this is the portrait of German artists," he said.

Born in Mecklenburg in 1930, Uecker is one of Germany's most
famous post-war artists.

He lives and works in Dusseldorf
