The Face of DI Panjaitan Area in East Jakarta Changes: Key Differences Identified

The area spanning Jalan DI Panjaitan to the Cawang Junction in East Jakarta is currently undergoing a transformation. The ongoing sidewalk construction project serves as the primary driver of this change.

Observations on Friday (4/9/2026) show that work on the DI Panjaitan road sidewalks is still in progress. Several vendor stalls that previously occupied the sidewalk area have been cleared.

The sidewalk project extends from Jalan DI Panjatkan to the Cawang Junction, with numerous construction workers currently completing the structural work. On the eastern side of Jalan DI Panjaitan, heading towards Cililitan, workers can be seen assembling steel frames and moving materials. Piles of stone, sand, cement, and steel are visible around the project site.

The construction area is enclosed by temporary barriers, and a temporary pedestrian walkway has been established for public use. Due to the works, Jalan DI Panjaitan has experienced narrowing in certain sections, causing motorists to reduce their speed when passing through the area.

Transformations are also occurring on the western side of Jalan DI Panjaitan, heading towards Jatinegara. Heavy machinery has been deployed at this location to construct new drainage systems and sidewalks. The sidewalk redevelopment project in this area is targeted for completion by November 2026.
