An albino buffalo in Bangladesh has suddenly gone viral, becoming a social media sensation because its blond mane resembles the hairstyle of US President Donald Trump. The 700-kilogram animal has been nicknamed “Donald Trump” by its owner, Zia Uddin Mridha, and since early May has drawn crowds hoping to photograph it.

Citing AFP, the buffalo is kept on a farm in Narayanganj near Dhaka. Mridha said the unique name was given by his sister because the animal’s blond, flowing hair mirrors Trump’s distinctive look. “My sister gave that name because the buffalo’s hair is very unusual,” Mridha said on Thursday (21/5/2026).

At the farm, the viral buffalo is washed with a bucket of cold water while its blond mane is neatly brushed with a pink brush. The blond hair is then styled between its large curved horns, the animal’s main attraction. “The only luxury he enjoys is bathing four times a day,” Mridha joked. “But the resemblance to Trump is only in the hairstyle,” he added.

Bangladesh livestock department officials say such albino buffaloes are very rare. Albinism causes the animal to appear white or pink due to a lack of melanin.

Stress

In fact, due to the viral attention, visitors continue to arrive—from children and social media content seekers to curious locals who want to see the buffalo firsthand. One visitor, Faisal Ahmed, came with five family members and a friend to view the viral buffalo. Ahmed also noted that his nephew even undertook a one-hour boat journey just to see the buffalo, a trip he described as well worth it for the animals’ sake. “There really is a resemblance between the buffalo and President Donald Trump,” he told AFP.

Nevertheless, Mridha admitted that the attention has caused his pet buffalo to lose weight. “Donald Trump,” he said, is stressed by the sheer number of people coming and peering at him.

Ready to be Sacrificed for Eid al-Adha

The viral phenomenon emerged ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Muslim festival. Bangladesh is a predominantly Muslim country with a population of about 170 million. Each Eid al-Adha, more than 12 million livestock—such as goats, cows, sheep, and buffaloes—are estimated to be slaughtered as part of the sacrificial tradition. “Donald Trump” has become one of the animals sacrificed on the day.

Despite his fame, “Donald Trump” is not the only uniquely named animal on the farm. There is also an aggressive buffalo named “Tufan”, a large-bodied buffalo named “Fat Boy”, and a blond-haired cow named after footballer Neymar.

Mridha says he has a strong emotional bond with the four-year-old buffalo and will miss him if he is sacrificed. “I will miss Donald Trump, but that is the essence of Eid al-Adha, which is to sacrifice,” he said.
