The Deep Grief of Iran's Jewish Representative Over the Passing of Ayatollah Khamenei
Tehran — The death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei following an attack by the United States and Israel has not only scarred the Shia Muslim community in the land of the mullahs. Dr Humayoun Sameh, a member of the parliament representing Iran’s Jewish community, added his condolences. In an open letter, Sameh blamed the ‘Zionist regime’ for the assassination carried out last weekend. He wrote that the killing had unleashed a wave of sadness and deep mourning in the hearts of the noble Iranian nation and among all free peoples of the world, as cited on the Ynews site, Monday (2 March 2026). Sameh, who frequently proclaims unconditional support for the Islamic Republic, added: ‘The Iranian Jewish community extends its sincere condolences to the noble Iranian nation, to its families, and to all supporters of the Islamic Revolution for this heavy and painful loss.’ He also wrote that Iran mourns the death of a leader who was wise, patient and compassionate. ‘A figure who dedicated his life to the path of independence, dignity and national pride, and who repeatedly stressed national unity, empathy and peaceful coexistence among the followers of divine faith.’ The Jewish member of parliament in Tehran then wrote that the loss of this great figure would be a deep and enduring wound in the soul of the Iranian people.
