The Dark Side of a Petrol Station Attacker in Cipinang: Impersonating a General to Buy Subsidised Fuel, and Testing Positive for Drugs
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The atmosphere at a petrol station in Cipinang, Pulogadung, East Jakarta, suddenly turned tense on Sunday (22/2/2026).
Because the vehicle data did not match during the Pertalite barcode scan, a customer with the initials JMH unleashed his anger and assaulted three petrol station staff. The perpetrator now faces a maximum prison sentence of two years and six months for his actions.
East Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, said that the perpetrator was charged under Article 466 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 471 of the Criminal Code regarding assault.
However, when the barcode was scanned through the Electronic Data Capture (EDC) machine, the vehicle data that appeared did not match.
“Instead, it showed a green Toyota Land Cruiser with a different license plate. As a result, the operator refused to fill the vehicle with fuel,” said Alfian at a press conference at the East Jakarta Metro Police Headquarters on Wednesday (25/2/2026).
“Then the suspect unleashed his emotions and committed acts of violence against the three victims,” he continued.
A rather unusual confession was made by JMH. He admitted that he deliberately mentioned that his car belonged to a general so that he could buy Pertalite subsidised fuel.
“Why did you choose this car, which you claimed belonged to a general? And what kind of general are you referring to? A police general or a TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) general?” asked East Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, to JMH in a video that was uploaded.
JMH explained that the confession was made so that his Toyota Vellfire could be filled with Pertalite.
“So that it can be filled (with Pertalite), sir. I didn’t mention the institution, sir. I just said it belonged to a general,” replied JMH.
Alfian then questioned why JMH used a fake Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) that did not match its intended purpose.
“My question is, why did you use a fake VRN?” asked Alfian.
“Yes, sir, to fill up with Pertalite,” replied JMH.
