The cost of the crisis
The cost of the crisis
Indonesia has been suffering from the economic crisis for the
past five years. The government and private sector have been
making all-out efforts to revive the economy, uphold supremacy of
the law, and create stability.
Vice President Hamzah Haz said these efforts to put the
economy back on track are estimated at more than Rp 700 trillion.
The figure constitutes Rp 650 trillion spent on the financial
and banking sector and the State Electricity Company's (PLN) debt
worth Rp 50 trillion, not to mention the government's US$75
billion foreign debt.
The government should thus seek the best way to bring the
country out of the protracted crisis. The way out is not
difficult to find, if it is sought seriously without any vested
interest.
