The Corruption Allegations Facing the Klaten Regent
JAKARTA — The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating suspected corruption within the Klaten regency administration in Central Java. The inquiry covers alleged receipt of money related to the procurement of goods and services, permits, and payments from several regional government agencies (OPD).
KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo said the investigation was being conducted to examine suspected payments received by public officials in the Klaten regency administration.
“The investigation concerns alleged receipt of money by public officials in the Klaten Regency Government, suspected to be connected with the procurement of goods and services, permits, collection fees, and other receipts from departments or OPD within the Klaten Regency Government,” Budi said on Friday (16 October 2026).
In addition to the alleged receipts, the KPK is also examining claims that the Klaten regent made a payment to an individual at the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK). Budi said the alleged payment was connected with the BPK’s examination or audit of the Klaten Regency Government.
“This investigation is suspected to relate to an alleged payment made by the regent to an individual at the BPK in connection with the BPK’s examination or audit of the Klaten Regency Government,” Budi said.
