The Corrs forced to cancel Indonesian tour
JAKARTA (JP): Irish pop group The Corrs canceled their promo concert here, which was initially planned to be held at the Jakarta Convention Center on Feb. 27, citing an illness suffered by one of its group.
Concert promoter Adrie Subono from Java Musikindo told journalists on Thursday that The Corrs' vocalist Andrea has an ear infection.
The announcement ended speculation surrounding the fate of the concert, which was arranged amid the rising political tension in the country.
"For those who have bought tickets, don't worry, you'll get your money back," Adrie said as quoted by Antara.
Corrs' fans, he said, could return their tickets to where they bought them from and have their money refunded uncut.
Ticket prices for the concert were sold for Rp 245,000 (US$25.8) for festival seats and Rp 500,000 for VIP seats.
According to Adrie, until the cancellation was announced, 80 percent of the tickets had been sold, which shows that the band has many fans in Indonesia.
The promoter pledged, however, to bring the group into the country for sometime in October.
Adrie's colleague, Iman, said Andrea's doctor had banned her from flying for 28 days due to the infection.
"As a result, other concerts scheduled to take place in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore have also been cancelled," Iman said.
The Corrs' manager confirmed earlier the group's readiness to hold a concert here.
The promoter had prepared a teleconference with The Corrs to be broadcast in the United Kingdom during the group's visit in Indonesia, according to Iman.
The Corrs are siblings Jim Corr (guitarist), Sharon Corr (violin player), Caroline Corr (drummer) and Andrea Corr (vocalist).
Together, the Dundalk, East Ireland natives have produced catchy pop songs blended with traditional Celtic sound.
They have sold over 20 million copies of their albums worldwide.
Their concert in Indonesia was planned to promote their third album titled In Blue.
The Corrs is not the only group who has canceled its concert here. Earlier this month, rock legend Deep Purple called off its concert scheduled for March due to security concerns. (hdn)
