The Consequences of Using Illegal Exhausts in Cimahi and West Bandung
Police have issued a warning to motorists against using ‘brong’ (illegal, high-noise) exhausts in the city of Cimahi, West Bandung Regency (KBB), and Margaasih. Strict sanctions will be imposed on riders who persist in using exhausts that do not meet official specifications on public roads.
Evidence of this police crackdown was demonstrated through the destruction of 5,004 illegal exhausts seized directly from violating vehicles within the Cimahi Police jurisdiction. The enforcement was initiated following frequent complaints from residents who felt disturbed by the excessive noise.
“We have carried out the destruction of evidence consisting of exhausts that do not meet specifications. This is a collaborative activity between the city government, regency government, TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), the Prosecutor’s Office, the Court, and the BNN (National Narcotics Agency). The people of Cimahi and West Bandung can witness our commitment,” stated the Chief of Cimahi Police, AKBP Moh. Faruk Rozi, when confirmed on Thursday.
Faruk also urged the public to avoid using non-specification exhausts, as the loud noise produced by illegal exhausts significantly disrupts the comfort and order of the community within the Cimahi Police jurisdiction.
“We are committed, and the entire Forkopimda (Regional Leadership Coordination Forum) is committed, to following up and taking firm action in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations,” he asserted.
The Head of Traffic Unit for Cimahi Police, AKP Arviandre Maliki, stated that the thousands of noisy exhausts destroyed were the result of enforcement actions conducted by his unit alongside sub-district police stations across Cimahi, KBB, and Margaasih. In addition to patrolling the streets, police also targeted schools.
“The illegal exhausts were obtained through joint operations with the TNI, Civil Service Police Unit (Pol PP), and the Transport Agency, as well as through enforcement activities by sub-district police stations in schools and other locations,” he added.
