The CEO Character in 'Perfect Crown' Criticised for Lacking Realism

High volatility is still likely to continue until the end of May. The trend of Korean dramas has now begun to move away from the classic “Candy Girl” pattern and towards characters of women who are economically successful. However, MBC’s latest drama, Perfect Crown, is considered to have failed to maximise the potential of its main character as a competent CEO.
The drama, set in a fictional constitutional monarchy, follows the story of Seong Hui-joo (played by IU), the second daughter of the Castle Group conglomerate. Although introduced as a business leader with “extraordinary thinking”, the on-screen portrayal has instead sparked disappointment among viewers.
The main problem lies in the credibility of Hui-joo’s identity as a CEO. Instead of showing strategic ability in solving problems or making decisions during crises, Hui-joo’s workplace scenes are dominated by emotions.
Viewers feel that Hui-joo’s character appears more like a sensitive and demanding boss than an accomplished business leader. The title of CEO she holds feels like just a “decorative label” to create the image of a successful woman without concrete evidence of competence.
The failure of Perfect Crown is even more evident when compared to other popular dramas that also feature strong female characters:
As women’s participation in economic activities increases, viewers - especially women aged 20-30 - now crave characters who realistically balance career ambitions and love. They are more connected with characters who have real skills through the process of problem-solving, rather than just dialogue claiming professionalism.
Although Perfect Crown focuses on romance, its failure to build a convincing foundation for the CEO character makes the overall narrative feel flat and difficult to fully immerse viewers.
IU has once again stolen attention after revealing her light diet on YouTube. The singer and actress admitted that she only eats apples and blueberries.
The fashion of IU and Byeon Woo-seok in the drama Perfect Crown stole attention with contrasting styles: glamorous chaebol style and elegant modern royal nuances.
IU was seen attending a BTS concert at Goyang Stadium. Her presence became a spotlight, as her history of collaboration with Suga and V was revisited.
IU and Byeon Woo Seok appeared like newlyweds in a photoshoot for ELLE Korea while promoting the drama Perfect Crown through a unique digital wedding invitation concept.
IU appears ambitious in the teaser for MBC’s latest Korean drama, Perfect Crown. She dares to propose to Prince Byeon Woo Seok in order to pursue social status.
