The Case That Ensnared LMI in the MBG Corruption Scandal
The Attorney General’s Office has named the Secretary of the Deputy for Promotion and Cooperation of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Brigadier General Lalu Muhammad Iwan Mahardan (LMI), as a new suspect in the alleged corruption case regarding the management of the 2025–2026 Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme.
“He (LMI) served as the Head of the Legal and Public Relations Bureau of the BGN until March 2025, and currently serves as the Secretary of the Deputy for Promotion and Cooperation at the BGN,” said the Director of Investigation of the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General’s Office, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, in Jakarta on Thursday (1/7).
Syarief explained that LMI’s involvement began in 2025. At that time, LMI requested witnesses YCS and RD to establish a company for the purpose of selling equipment, specifically food trays, to potential partners of the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) at prices predetermined by the suspect LMI.
“Included in that price was a portion for Mr LMI to ensure that the sale of those food trays was approved,” he said.
Regarding the amount of profit received by LMI, he did not disclose the figure. For his actions, LMI is charged under Article 12, letters a, b, and e of the Corruption Crime Law in conjunction with Law Number 1 of 2023 regarding the Criminal Code. Following his designation as a suspect, LMI has been detained at the Salemba Detention Centre, South Jakarta Branch of the District Attorney’s Office.
Previously, the Attorney General’s Office had named six other suspects in this case, including the former Head of BGN, Dadan Hindayana; the former Deputy Head of BGN for Organisational Development and Institutional Relations, Lodewyk Pusung; the former Deputy Head of BGN for Nutritional Fulfilment Operations, Sony Sonjaya; Asep Yusuf Soemantri from the private sector; the Commissioner of PT Yasa Artha Trimanunggal, Andri Mulyono; and Glory Harimas Sihombing from the private sector.
