The man born in Kudus, Central Java, on 2 October 1939, successfully built a sprawling business empire under the Djarum Group, spanning segments from tobacco and finance to telecommunications.

According to a Forbes report as of Thursday (19/3/2026), Michael Hartono ranked 157th among the world’s richest people. The estimated net worth he left behind is US$17.5 billion, or approximately Rp297.41 trillion (exchange rate of Rp16,995 per US dollar).

The Djarum Group oversees several companies under the investment holding company PT Dwimuria Investama Andalan, which is the majority shareholder of PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA).

In addition to BBCA, several affiliated companies under the Djarum Group include PT Sarana Menara Nusantara Tbk (TOWR), PT Solusi Tunas Pratama Tbk (SUPR), PT Global Digital Niaga (BELI), and PT Supra Boga Lestari Tbk (RANC).
