The Brutality of Sexual Violence at Pati Islamic Boarding School: Female Students Forced to Perform Oral Sex on Suspect Kiai

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PATI – Dozens of female students at an Islamic boarding school (ponpes) in Pati Regency, Central Java, are suspected to have become victims of sexual violence by a caregiver. The case has been occurring since 2024 and is currently being handled by Pati Police Resort.

Ali Yusron, the legal representative of the alleged victims, revealed that the suspected perpetrator is a man with the initials S. In 2024, S served as the chairman of the foundation at the ponpes where the female students boarded and studied. According to Ali, the ponpes is considered quite large in Pati. However, he declined to disclose the name or location of the ponpes to protect the safety and security of the alleged victims.

“So the modus operandi of the suspected perpetrator, at midnight he would WhatsApp the female students to come sleep and massage Kiai S. That involved one or two people together, even three. It was there that the criminal acts occurred in the form of coercion,” said Ali when interviewed on Friday (1/5/2026).

Ali added that S is suspected of also threatening the alleged victims if they refused to comply with his demands. “If they don’t want to serve, then S would expel them from the Islamic boarding school,” he stated.

“This Islamic boarding school mostly takes in children entrusted by parents, from poor families, orphans and those without parents,” added Ali.

Ali revealed that in his actions, S even forced the alleged victims to perform oral sex. “The number of victims, according to statements from the victims’ examination records and other witnesses, is between 30 and 50 people,” he said.

Ali stated that the alleged victims he represents are in their teens and still studying at the madrasah tsanawiah level. Their school is also located within the ponpes environment.

Among the alleged victims who reported S’s actions to the police, some have already graduated. However, others are still in the ponpes environment to this day.
