The Brandals Close Gebrak May Day Rally at the DPR

The performance by the music group The Brandals closed the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration event held by the Gerakan Buruh Bersama Rakyat or Gebrak alliance in front of the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex on Friday, 1 May 2026.

Before ending their performance with the song titled 100 Percent Control, the Jakarta-based music group reminded that various government policies cannot be implemented without the role of workers.

“Even though we are workers, it is our taxes that fund the government’s harmful programmes, one of which is free nutritious meals. See you next year’s May Day,” said The Brandals’ vocalist Eka Annash in front of the DPR Building on Friday.

Tempo’s observation at the location showed that the Gebrak alliance masses dispersed around 6:00 PM WIB. While walking, they sang struggle songs such as ‘Buruh Tani’, accompanied by the glow of red flares.

Meanwhile, for this 2026 May Day, Gebrak brought 10 demands to the DPR and government. The demands include:

1. Immediately enact a pro-worker Employment Law;

2. Reform the wage system and eliminate wage disparities: implement fair and dignified national decent wages for workers;

3. Ensure job certainty by abolishing outsourcing, contract work, fake partnerships, and exploitative apprenticeships;

4. Immediately ratify ILO Conventions 188-190, guarantee and protect female workers up to those with disabilities;

5. Prosper educators, lecturers, platform workers, medical and health workers;

6. The DPR and government must also stop mass layoffs and the suppression of labour unions;

7. Realise free, quality education and health;

8. Uphold civil supremacy, safeguard democracy, stop militarism, stop criminalisation of people’s movements, and free arrested activists.

9. Implement true agrarian reform, stop the eviction of people’s land;

10. Stop the war as a form of solidarity for the sovereignty of the Palestinian, Iranian, Venezuelan, Cuban people, and others.
