The Blessing Often Overlooked by an Entire Nation
Among the many blessings Allah bestows upon mankind, there is one whose value is often only felt once it is lost: security. Security is not merely freedom from war or threats. It is far broader: living in a state of safety for oneself, tranquillity with one’s family, and comfort within society. With security, people can worship, work, educate their children, seek a livelihood, and live their lives in peace. Because of its immense importance, the Qur’an repeatedly reminds humanity to recognise and be grateful for it. Allah reminded the people of Makkah about the blessing of security they had experienced. They said to the Messenger of Allah: ‘And they said, “If we follow the guidance with you, we will be swept from our land.”’ (Allah replied) ‘Have We not established for them a safe sanctuary to which are brought the fruits of all things as provision from Us? But most of them do not know.’ (QS al-Qasash: 57). They feared that if they followed Prophet Muhammad and abandoned the religion of their forefathers, the Arabs would wage war against them and expel them from their homeland.
