Korean bowlers were in fine form during the fourth day of the
second Indonesia International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship
on Wednesday, taking first and second place in the Women's Grade
A Masters finals.
Oh Sun Mi led the finalists with a total score of 2,401 points
in 12 frames, with teammate Park Ye Rim coming in second with
2,339 points, followed by Jessah of Indonesia with 2,333.
The real contest was between the two Koreans, with Park, who
was leading until the eighth frame, seemed to lose her composure
and Oh began to surge into the lead and maintained her position
until the end.
Commenting on Oh's victory, South Korean coach Oh Youn Seok
said: "Oh managed to maintain her pace, while Park was a bit up
and down."
The 20-year old student, Oh, is the first ranked bowler in the
universities' bowling league back in Seoul.
With her victory, Oh pocketed Rp 6 million (US$650), Park Rp
3.5 million and Jessah Rp 2 million.
Meanwhile, Jessah, a Filipina, who is a nationalized
Indonesian, said she was glad to get in the top three in the
Grade A category.
"I should have been able to take second place, but I had no
power anymore in frame 12. At the end, I lost by only three
points to Park," she said.
She said her third place was an improvement from the first
Indonesia Open last year, in which she got nothing.
Twenty two finalists took part in the Women's Grade A Masters
finals, including seven Koreans, 14 Indonesians and one Filipina.
Besides Jessah, Indonesian teenager bowler Widianingsih
managed to grab fifth place with 2,227 points, while Raniia
Anisha Nugroho finished in sixth with 2,214 points.
On Thursday, the tournament will feature Women's and Men's
Grade B Masters finals.
