Referring to the letter by MMI Ahyani from Bandung published
in The Jakarta Post on March 20, 1996, entitled Ticket refund, we
would like to clarify as follows.
Because of the rerouting procedure from Balikpapan-Jakarta to
Balikpapan-Yogyakarta, Merpati Airlines in Balikpapan has issued
an Exchange Order (not a voucher) worth Rp 45,100.
You submitted this EO to our Bandung office to be cashed on
Jan. 24, 1996. But our office explained that the process of
refunding would take more than one month. This is not due to the
agent's rules but Airline regulations.
Our office in Bandung contacted Merpati for the refund through
our central office in Jakarta. One month later, when you checked
the case with us, the document was not lost, as such, but we
asked you to fax us the receipt of the document to examine
whether the refund could be paid. Unfortunately we still had no
confirmation about it at that time.
However early in the second week of March we got confirmation
from Merpati to the effect that the refund could be cashed. But
our company regulations demand that refund and rerouting cases
must be first confirmed with the company or institution that pays
the ticket. In this case, the Travel Section of your brother's
office. The refund should be arranged through the Travel Section,
which in turn will settle the case with your brother. Therefore
we regret that we cannot pay the refund to you directly.
