BENGKULU, Bengkulu: A total of 77,665 boars, regarded as enemy number one to most farmers, were killed during the year, exceeding the administration's target of 50,000, an official said.

The chief of the Plant Protection Division of the Bengkulu chapter of the agriculture ministry, Usman Gumanti, said the administration's campaign offering Rp 5,000 ($2.2) for every board killed has paid off, Antara reported.

He estimated that there are still at least 750,000 boars roaming around the province.(imn)
