Thanks to PONDASI, Punan Malinau Residents Feel Safe Again
Jakarta, CNB Indonesia - As a victim of a natural disaster, Ubang has not forgotten how the major flood that struck Punan Malinau Village, Segah Subdistrict, Berau, East Kalimantan, in 2025 submerged his home for days. At that time, the condition of his house gradually worsened, with the supporting wood quickly rotting, walls weakening, and the floor no longer sturdy.
Before the incident, Ubang’s simple house was still habitable, but it has now become a source of worry. Every time it rains, anxiety immediately sets in. He fears that the damage will worsen, even endangering his and his family’s safety.
“Since the flood, my house has slowly deteriorated. The wood is starting to rot, the walls are no longer as strong as before. When it rains, I immediately get anxious. I’m afraid water will enter again, afraid the house won’t hold up. Sometimes I can’t sleep because I’m constantly worried,” said Ubang, quoted on Thursday (30/4/2026).
Nevertheless, that worry has gradually subsided when the Renovation and Sanitation Programme (PONDASI) from PT Natura Pasific Nusantara—member of PT Triputra Agro Persada Tbk—arrived to help repair Ubang’s house. The previously fragile parts have been reinforced, the damaged floor repaired, and the house structure made more robust to withstand extreme weather.
The Pondasi programme itself is part of the TAP untuk Negeri initiative run by the company in the operational areas of its subsidiaries. The programme focuses on meeting the basic needs of the community regarding safe, decent, and healthy housing as the foundation for a more productive family life.
Gradually, the TAP Pondasi programme, launched since July 2025, aims to repair more than 300 houses. The activity takes place across the company’s operational areas in Jambi, East Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan, involving various local stakeholders.
The identification of beneficiaries is carried out together with village governments to ensure aid reaches those in need. This collaborative approach is seen as helping to ensure the renovation process runs according to community needs.
In various regions, the issue of decent housing remains a significant but often unseen challenge. However, the quality of living spaces plays an important role in supporting health, safety, and family productivity.
Another story comes from Jumriadi, another Punan Malinau resident who also benefited from PONDASI. For Jumriadi, the house repairs carried out by the company have very personal significance, especially since he has just been blessed with a child.
Previously, the not fully decent house condition had made him worried about welcoming the new family member. He wants to ensure his child can grow up in a safe and comfortable environment.
“With the previous house condition, honestly I was still worried. Thank you to PT NPN for the house renovation assistance for our previously poor home; our family is very helped. Our house is now much better and safer,” he explained.
In the end, the changes felt by Ubang and Jumriadi illustrate that decent housing is not just a basic need, but also an important foundation for family safety and sustainability. Through the PONDASI Programme, house repair efforts bring broader impacts, from peace in resting, security for family members, to confidence in facing the future more optimistically.
