Thames Water flushes pipeline
JAKARTA (JP): Thames Water International has started cleaning sediment from water pipelines in several areas in East Jakarta as part of its cooperation with city-owned drinking water company PDAM Jaya, the company said yesterday.
Thames Water distribution director, Tony De Seta, said in a statement that the first stage of the cleaning program was conducted at night and involved more than 200 employees.
"All the work is carried out at night to minimize any possible disruption caused by this project," De Seta said.
The project, he said, began in Cipinang, I Gusti Ngurah Rai, Halim Perdanakusuma, Kali Malang and Cilincing last week following intensive and regular water quality sampling.
The company hoped customers could give feedback on problems with their water supply by calling the firm's service phone number 5772010 or by contacting the firm's branch offices, he said.
The company is responsible for managing, operating, maintaining, expanding and improving the water supply in East Jakarta.
Thames Water is targeted to supply more than 100 million cubic meters of clean water per year by the end of this year and to improve water quality to drinking water standards within 10 years. (jun)
