THAILAND: Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, recovering from an ear infection, has canceled all official engagements and will stay at home to be away from noise for one week, the government said on Monday
Thaksin was discharged late on Sunday from the Rama IX Hospital where he was admitted last Wednesday for treatment of an infection of the inner ear. His doctors said it was caused by overwork and frequent flying in noisy military planes.
Thaksin, 52, needs to stay at home for seven days to avoid noise, but will be available to sign government documents, government spokesman Yongyudh Thiyapairat said.
The illness has cast uncertainty over Thaksin's plans to attend on Thursday and Friday an international economic conference to be held on the Chinese island of Hainan. --AP
