Thaksin meets Thai students in Jakarta
Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra briefly met
with a group of Thai Muslim students studying in
Indonesia upon his arrival at the Hotel Mulia Senayan in Jakarta
on Thursday night.
According to Kriang Sat, 26, a student from southern
Thailand, Thaksin told the students to study hard and not to
worry about the situation in their southern Thai homeland, which
has been rocked by conflict in recent years.
"He told us to study not only religious subjects but other
subjects as well, and to come home as soon as we finished our
studies to help build up our country," said Ahmad, 27, who is
studying at the State Islamic University (UIN) in Ciputat.
Asked by reporters about the latest situation in the
Thai south, Thaksin said: "It is getting better
and better." --JP
