Thailand's Foreign Ministry proposes reducing visa-free stay to 30 days
Bangkok - Thailand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Visa Policy Committee have recommended that the government reduce the visa-free stay period for foreign tourists by half to 30 days, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on Friday. “After thoroughly reviewing this issue, we have concluded that 60 days is too long and should be reduced to 30 days,” the minister told reporters in Bangkok. The recommendation applies to all countries eligible for the 60-day visa exemption privilege without exception, he added. “We have recommended this reduction to the government, noting that it applies to all countries entitled to this benefit, without exception or discrimination,” the minister said. Foreign tourists wishing to extend their stay in Thailand beyond 30 days can apply for a 30-day extension of the visa-free stay, Sihasak Phuangketkeow stated.
