Thailand, Vietnam discuss defense
HANOI (Reuter): Thailand and Vietnam prepared to strengthen
military and other relations yesterday in talks between their
defense ministers in Hanoi.
Thai Defense Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh arrived in Hanoi
and was due to hold talks with Vietnamese counterpart Doan Khue.
Apart from defense issues, Chavalit would discuss fisheries
cooperation, trade and investment and military ties between the
two former adversaries, the Thai embassy said.
Gen. Chavalit, who is also a deputy prime minister, will also
meet Vietnamese President Le Duc Anh. Military cooperation
between Hanoi and Bangkok has improved since the 1989 withdrawal
of Vietnamese troops from Cambodia.
