Thailand to host Tiger Cup 2000
BANGKOK (AFP): The ASEAN Football Federation, the regional
body controlling soccer in Southeast Asia, has chosen Thailand as
the host of the Tiger Cup 2000.
The Thais, who won the inaugural title in 1996, were chosen
after successfully hosting the Asian Games, with November slated
as a provisional date for the tournament.
Paul Mony Samuel, the honorary secretary of the AFF, said of
the decision: "We saw the support that football received at the
Asian Games and it showed that Thailand would be the perfect
venue for our regional championship."
Singapore won the last championship in Vietnam when it
defeated the host 1-0 in the final.
