Thailand takes 1998 Asiad home
BANGKOK (Reuter): Three-time Asian Games host Bangkok will hold the 1998 Asiad as planned, having convinced the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) of its readiness, a government official said yesterday.
"I signed a memorandum of understanding with (OCA president) Sheik Ahmad Al-Sabah, which lays out the conditions which we will follow," said Pongpol Adireksarn, minister responsible for Thailand's sports affairs.
Pongpol made the announcement at a news conference upon his return from Kuwait, where he and a delegation of Thai sports officials made a presentation to Sheik Ahmad and the OCA in a last-ditch effort to keep the Games in Thailand.
