Thailand pians roadshow after blast
BANGKOK: The Stock Exchange of Thailand has been asked to plan roadshows to restore foreign investor confidence after the bomb attacks in Bali, Finance Minister Somkid Jatusripitak said Monday.
Somkid said he had asked the central Bank of Thailand and the Securities Exchange Commission to coordinate with the bourse authorities for the roadshow.
The minister said it was still too early to evaluate the impact of the bomb blasts in Bali on the local economy.
But he said he was "not worried about the current weakness of the local stock market as it still generates a higher return compared to other markets in the region".
Separately, Bangkok Bank Plc. executive chairman Kosit Panpiemras said the Bali bombings, which have left nearly 200 people dead, would not affect Thailand's economy and foreign investment situation.
Thailand's tourism industry may even benefit over time as tourists may opt to travel to Thailand instead of Indonesia, he said.--AFP
