Thailand invites Gen. Khin Nyunt

BANGKOK (AFP): Defense Minister Chaowalit Yongchaiyudh has
invited Myanmar's intelligence chief, Lt. Gen. Khin Nyunt, to
visit during a Sept. 14-16 military hardware show, a Thai
official said yesterday.

A spokesman for Chaowalit, who paid a visit to Myanmar last
week, said Khin Nyunt had agreed to visit Thailand but had not
yet set a date.

The visit is in any case expected to take place before the
Bangkok summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations
(ASEAN) in mid-December.

The Defense Asia show is attracting exhibitors from 21
countries including Australia, Britain, France, Germany, India,
Israel, Singapore, Sweden and the United States.

The Thai Defense Ministry has indicated it would sponsor
defense ministers or their deputies from 13 countries.
