Thailand barters rice for RI planes
BANGKOK (Reuter): The Thai cabinet yesterday approved a counter trade deal whereby Thailand will sell 110,000 tons of rice to Indonesia and buy two Indonesian-made aircraft in return, a government official said.
The official told Reuters that Thailand would buy two CASA CN- 235 aircraft made by Indonesia's state-owned Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN) in Bandung for 831.59 million baht (US$33.27 million).
In return, Indonesia's National Logistics Agency (Bulog) will buy 110,000 tons of various grades of Thai rice for delivery between November and February.
The rice to be purchased by Indonesia under the deal comprises 20,000 tons of 10 percent glutinous rice at US$460 per ton Free on board ,Bangkok, 65,000 tons of 10-15 percent grade rice at $335-345 per ton, and 25,000 tons of broken rice at $237 per ton.
