Moscow (ANTARA) - The Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to take steps to gradually restore bilateral relations in a trilateral meeting with the President of the Philippines on the sidelines of the ASEAN Summit in Cebu. β€œThe Prime Ministers of Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to task their Foreign Ministers to work together in preparing steps to build trust and confidence and to gradually restore bilateral relations,” according to a statement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Philippine President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr., and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. Thailand also expressed appreciation to the Philippines, as the 2026 ASEAN chair, for the initiative to hold the meeting and its support for dialogue between Thailand and Cambodia. The statement mentioned that the parties welcome the joint commitment of Thailand and Cambodia to strengthen the ceasefire and encourage constructive dialogue and peaceful resolution based on good neighbourly relations. In 2025, the territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia escalated and triggered two armed clashes at the border within a year. Those clashes involved the use of heavy weapons, artillery, rockets, and military aircraft before the two countries signed a ceasefire agreement on 27 December 2025.
