Thailand Affirms Continued Crackdown on Transnational Crime
Bangkok - Thai Government Spokesperson Ratchada Thanadirek affirmed on Monday that the safety of the public and tourists is being treated as a serious priority, whilst cracking down on transnational crime, telephone scam operations, human trafficking, and cybercrime. In a statement, Ratchada said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has instructed all agencies to work in an integrated manner to build security and safety for citizens. She stressed that given most criminal activities are connected through cross-border networks, the government must enhance its means and international cooperation to keep pace with evolving criminal methods. One of the primary instruments, Ratchada continued, is the Royal Thai Police’s SCAM & Human Trafficking Information Exchange and Linked Database, or ‘SHIELD’, which has attracted interest from several countries as a central platform for exchanging information related to transnational crime. Concurrently, Ratchada said the Thai government is advancing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) through the Intelligent Bird Eye Operation Center (IBOC) to strengthen surveillance and crime prevention in key economic and tourism areas, enabling authorities to detect anomalies and respond to incidents more swiftly.
