Thai sugar exports fall in June
BANGKOK (Reuter): Thai sugar exports fell to about 485,311 tons in June from 683,040 tons a year ago, trade sources said yesterday.
They said the June exports included about 283,055 tons of raw sugar and 202,256 tons of refined white sugar.
Major buyers of Thai raw in June were Japan (74,400 tons), Malaysia (46,854 tons), South Korea (33,750 tons), the United States (27,172 tons), China (26,210 tons), Tanzania (12,000 tons), and Indonesia (9,500 tons).
Major buyers of refined white sugar in June were Iran (66,950 tons), Indonesia (33,500 tons), Yemen (27,500 tons), Tanzania (15,000 tons), Kenya (14,500 tons), and Libya (12,000 tons).
Thailand exported 3.76 million tons of sugar during January/June, up from 2.85 million a year ago. Exports in the first half of 1996 included 2.59 million of raw and 1.17 million of refined white and brown sugar.
Indonesia topped Thailand's buyers list in the first half of this year, lifting 636,800 tons of raw and white sugar, Japan (550,984 tons), South Korea (535,716 tons), China (448,470 tons), Malaysia (358,300 tons), the Philippines (316,032 tons), Iran (154,000 tons), United Arab Emirates (99,523 tons), Tanzania (56,400 tons), and Romania (25,000 tons).
