BANGKOK (UPI): The Thai Foreign Ministry says Prime Minister
Chavalit Yongchaiyudh will make his first overseas trip as head
of the government early next month with a visit to Indonesia.
A Foreign Ministry spokesman said yesterday that Chavalit, who
became prime minister after his party won the Nov. 17 general
election, will meet with Indonesian President Soeharto on Jan.
3rd and 4th.
Soeharto is ASEAN's most senior leader.
The spokesman said it had become a tradition among ASEAN
heads-of-government to visit each other early in their
administrations. He said the newly appointed Thai foreign
minister, Prachuab Chaisarn, will visit Malaysia on Jan. 6th.
