Thai PM to investigate cause of train and bus collision in Bangkok

Bangkok (ANTARA) - The Thai government will thoroughly investigate the cause of the train and bus collision in Bangkok and will assist the victims, said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Saturday evening at the scene of the accident.

At around 3:40 p.m. local time, a train traveling from Chachoengsao Province to Bang Sue in Bangkok collided with a bus at a railway crossing in central Bangkok, sparking a fire accompanied by small explosions.

A number of other cars and motorcycles were also involved in the incident.

Rescue teams rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire and carry out rescue operations.

The flames have been completely extinguished, and all those injured have been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The accident resulted in eight deaths and 32 injuries, according to a statement from the Thai Ministry of Transportation.

All of the fatalities were passengers on the bus.

It is reported that a Chinese citizen who suffered minor injuries in the accident and was initially taken to hospital for treatment has now left the hospital safely.
