Thai PM Anutin Charnvirakul Welcomed with State Ceremony at Merdeka Palace
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was received with a state ceremony featuring an honour guard and traditional dance upon his arrival at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Monday, during an official visit taking place on 3–4 August 2026.
The welcoming procession began with an honour guard greeting PM Anutin upon his arrival at the Merdeka Palace complex, where he was also welcomed with the Betawi Kembang Selaras dance as part of the ceremonial welcome for the state visit.
As many as 1,000 students carrying the Indonesian Red-and-White and Thai flags took part in the welcoming procession held around the National Monument (Monas) area through to Merdeka Palace.
In addition, 120 mounted troops escorted PM Anutin’s journey from the National Monument to Merdeka Palace as part of the state welcoming ceremony.
The visit marks Anutin’s first to Indonesia since he officially took office as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister.
Indonesia and Thailand have maintained diplomatic relations since 7 March 1950. PM Anutin’s visit forms part of efforts to deepen bilateral ties following the elevation of relations to a strategic partnership.
During the two-day visit, the two countries will discuss a range of areas of cooperation, including strengthening the economy, trade and investment through expanded market access and supply chains, as well as boosting two-way investment.
PM Anutin is also scheduled to attend a business forum organised by the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) together with its Thai counterpart, bringing together business players from both countries.
Earlier, PM Anutin arrived at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Monday at 4.05pm local time. Upon arrival, the Thai Prime Minister was welcomed by Coordinating Minister for Political and Legal Affairs Djamari Chaniago, the Indonesian Ambassador to Thailand, and the Thai Ambassador to Indonesia.
From Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, the Thai Prime Minister’s delegation was escorted by a motorcade to Merdeka Palace, where he was received with a series of state welcoming ceremonies.
