BANGKOK (AFP): Thai Prime Minister Chavalit Yongchaiyudh said
yesterday that four navy ships and soldiers were being sent to
southern Thailand, where flood waters up to two meters deep have
killed six people.
The six died and one was missing after they were washed away
in the torrents caused by tropical storm Cida, an interior
ministry official told AFP.
The ministry said 20 provinces have been hit by floods since
the waters began to rise Friday, and another four provinces were
suffering from serious flooding with some areas cut off from the
outside world.
Konsag Leumanomont, governor of Chumphon, the worst affected
province, said helicopters were sending rice, food and water to
districts that had been completely cut off for two days.
