Bangkok - Thailand’s Fourth Army Area Command has urged the public to remain vigilant following a number of violent incidents in the southern border provinces. According to Thai media reports, a series of violent incidents, including deliberate arson and explosions, occurred in the provinces of Narathiwat, Yala, and Pattani on Saturday (22 August) starting at 8.00 pm local time. The attacks included the burning of administrative offices, the burning of car tyres, and the bombing of electricity poles and convenience stores. At least 11 incidents occurred in Narathiwat Province, while one car bomb left two people injured. Through a post on Facebook, the Narathiwat Task Force announced that a curfew was imposed across the province from Saturday at 10.15 pm until Sunday (23 August) at 6.00 am local time. The task force also stated that residents must obtain permission from the military, police, or local administrative authorities before leaving their homes if there is an urgent matter.
