Thai man stabbed in robbery
YOGYAKARTA: Robbers injured a Thai businessman and made off with his cellular phone and money on Wednesday night, local police said on Thursday.
The victim, identified only by the initials KHC, 52, sustained serious stab wounds in the arm during the robbery at 9:30 p.m.
Second Insp. Sumanto, a detective from Gamping Police subprecinct in Sleman regency, said the Thai man was leaving Yogyakarta along with his driver Asep Supriyatna when the incident took place.
As they arrived in Bulak Gempol area, Gamping, the man asked Asep to stop the car and buy mineral water for him, Sumanto said.
Minutes later, a sedan approached. Two men emerged from the car and got into the Thai man's car, quickly tying him up and gagging him.
"After that, the two men drove away in the victim's car, taking him along," Sumanto said.
He said the robbers released the Thai man and left his car.
The police were investigating the motive behind the case, as the robbers did not take the victim's car. "If it was robbery, they wouldn't have left the car behind," Sumanto said. -- JP
