Thai, Malaysian leaders to hold talks

THAILAND: Thai premier Thaksin Shinawatra and his Malaysian
counterpart Mahathir Mohamad will discuss the political crisis in
Myanmar during talks this weekend on the Malaysian resort island
of Langkawi, officials said on Wednesday.

During the two-day talks on Langkawi, which lies near the
Thai-Malaysian border, Thaksin will also meet with United Nations
envoy to Myanmar Razali Ismail, said Thai Foreign Minister
Surakiart Sathirathai.

Razali, a former Malaysian diplomat, is the only outsider to
have seen Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi since she
was taken into detention in the wake of the May 30 political
violence.

Thailand has reportedly presented to Myanmar a "road map"
toward national reconciliation, which Surakiart plans to discuss
with his Myanmar counterpart Win Aung when he visits Thailand
later this month for economic talks. --AFP
