Thai jewelry expo

JAKARTA (JP): A 20-strong delegation of leading gems and
jewelry entrepreneurs from Thailand will visit Indonesia from
Jan.16.

Five of the delegation's members will hold a special
exhibition of top quality gem and jewelry products at the Sahid
Jaya Hotel in Central Jakarta on Jan. 16 and 17, the Thai Embassy
announced yesterday.

Among the items to be displayed are costly rubies, blue
sapphires and other expensive precious and semi-precious
gemstones, in addition to elegant items of fine jewelry.

Thailand is well-known for its superb craftsmanship in
gemstone production in addition to manufacturing fine jewelry of
top standard design and quality. Thai jewelry designers have won
top prizes in many international design contests including
several awards from the Diamond International Awards
Competition--the prestigious contest organized by De Beers.

Each year Thailand exports more than US$ 2,000 million worth
of diamonds, gems and jewelry items world wide.(bas)
