Thai govt agree on Asiad venues

BANGKOK (AFP): The Thai Cabinet has come up with a compromise
on facilities for the 1998 Asian Games after long delays which
had prompted the Olympic Council of Asia to threaten to move the
Games elsewhere.

In a long meeting Tuesday, the Cabinet decided to spread the
facilities over three widely-separated sites on the northern and
eastern outskirts of Bangkok.

"We cannot afford any more delay or else the project will not
be completed in time," Prime Minister Chuan Leekpai said after
the meeting. He said a committee would be set up to make a final
decision on facilities at each site.
