Thai elephant 'teachers' coming
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Twelve elephant 'teachers' bought from Thailand will be transported overland through Malaysia and Singapore, to enter Indonesia through Aceh, Antara reported.
The head of the Lampung's Nature Conservation Agency, said the animals will be used to tame local elephants, and should reach the Way Kambas elephant training center near here within two months.
At the moment, the school has only one training elephant left: 40-year old Tong Bay, who also came from Thailand.
Some of the new elephants would be dispatched to other provinces, including Aceh and Central Kalimantan, the news agency said.
Thai elephants are suitable for training and taming local wild elephants because they are bigger in posture. (emb)
